Traditional Polish żurek soup with egg, white kielbasa, and herbs in a white bowl at Kat’s Café & Restaurant.

Polish Zurek

This wonderful soup is made from scratch using wild oats or certain types of grain. It is fermented for about two weeks following a traditional old-country family recipe. During the process important ingredients are added to make the unique Żurek flavor. The end result is a nutritious and savory broth used as a base for the dish.

Known for its tangy flavor profile, it is a sour rye soup cherished by those who appreciate a hint of pickled taste. Complemented with special herbs, seasonings, white kielbasa, and a hardboiled egg, this soup can be enjoyed with or without the egg.

The Polish Żurek soup is often confused with white borscht. However, the Polish Żurek is special due to its distinctive ingredients and the unique process behind its creation. We highly encourage having a bowl.

At Kat’s, a cup comes with bread, and a bowl comes with a side of pan-fried mashed potatoes. The soup has a lot of amazing flavors and will certainly warm up the belly.
