Mothering Sunday

Mother’s Day is a cherished occasion set aside to honor and celebrate mothers and the essence of motherhood. Its history is vibrant and intertwined with numerous cultural traditions worldwide. After all, everyone has a mother. While the modern observance of Mother’s Day began in the United States in the early 1900s, its roots can be traced back to ancient festivals and the Christian custom of “Mothering Sunday.” The significance and evolution of Mother’s Day in the U.S. are closely linked to the nation’s history, especially the social movements that emerged after the Civil War. Ann Reeves Jarvis, a prominent peace activist and community organizer, was instrumental in establishing the foundations of Mother’s Day through her initiative of “Mothers’ Day Work Clubs.” That tradition has carried on and evolved into today’s modern concept, known as Mother’s Day. Happy Mothering Day to all!
